Is Bluegrass Station also the Blue Grass Army Depot?

No.  Bluegrass Station in Avon, Kentucky, is often mistaken for the Blue Grass Army Depot in Richmond, Kentucky.  In fact, both are located off of major interstates at Exit 87, except Bluegrass Station is near I-64 while the Blue Grass Army Depot is off of I-75.

Those seeking information regarding the Bluegrass Army Depot can dial (859) 625-6380 for assistance.

It is the Richmond location that stores nerve gas on site.  Bluegrass Station does not house nerve gas or chemical or biological weapons.

Lexington's Address for Business Success

Aerial view of Bluegrass Station

Located in Central Kentucky, Bluegrass Station (BGS) was assigned many missions during the last half of the 20th century. Built during World War II, expanded during the next three decades, then selected for closure by the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) program, BGS was destined for rebirth as a light industrial park. The State of Kentucky assumed management of the depot with the goal of creating jobs to replace those that would be lost due to the closure. Since that time the goal has been reached and will soon be surpassed.

Thus, Bluegrass Station has become a thriving business community and a great success story.

BGS Home to New Fire Station

Bluegrass Station is now the location for of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG) newest fire station. The crew, housed in new quarters and operating a new fire engine, is on on station 24 hours a day. Answering fire and EMS calls the addition of the station is a great plus for all.

Base Closure
Success Story

BGS is a successful example of the reinvention and use of properties left in the wake of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) program of the US Department of Defense. As more bases are targeted for closure the experience gained at Bluegrass Station will become more and more valuable.
